Biography of Paul J. Zepf P.Eng. CPP
Paul
studied engineering at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo,
Ontario, Canada. He graduated in 1972 with a BASc in Mechanical
Engineering. He worked and achieved his machinist papers in 1975.
Paul is certified as a Professional Engineer in Ontario and a
Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) in the United States. He has
continued his education through many courses in business, design
techniques, patents, computers, servo systems and automation.
Paul was a founder, Chief Engineer and President of new product
innovations and design at a company specializing in packaging
changeover tooling systems and machinery from 1972 until 1989.
In 1989, Paul co-founded Zarpac Inc. based out of Oakville, Ontario,
Canada. Zarpac Inc. is an international packaging engineering and
consulting firm specializing in:
- Development and implementation of the
"Performance Index (PI)" system for benchmarking and improving
packaging line performance and packaging line monitoring software.
- Research, development and implementation of new
concepts in calculating and designing packaging processes and
machinery.
- Engineering and consulting in integrating
machinery, automating systems, and turnkey projects for the
packaging industry.
- Engineering of specialized custom packaging
machinery and systems.
- Packaging Line Evaluations, Training and
Procedures.
Paul has over 30 years
of packaging experience. He has designed and built, by last count,
over 32 different types of special one-of-kind machines and systems
such as high speed combiners, dividers, inverters, collators, puck
transfer systems, off-line automatic sampling systems, indexers,
coolers, washers, collator/packers, custom packing machinery, quick
change tooling and systems, tray packers, and robotic case packers.
Paul has written numerous articles in publications and given many
seminars relating to packaging line machinery, machine design,
integration, process performance and project management. Paul has
authored two books titled "How to Analyze Packaging Line
Performance" and "Optimizing Packaging Line Performance" published
through the IoPP, and co-authored the book "The IoPP Glossary of
Packaging Terminology". He has several new books coming out in 2002
relating to Wastage and Rework, FMECA, Downtime Analysis,
Performance Measures and Quick Change Process.
