start with Volume 2.
Input
Protocols are those measures and insight into the material
and supply aspects to ensure an effective and efficient
production process. The key areas to concentrate on are:
the support and expertise of the supplier; the cleanliness
and order of the supply organizations; the methods that
the supplier employs to ensure his materials and supplies
are within your specifications; the logistics in the distribution
and storage of all materials for their and your production
process and an internal supplier program of continuous
improvement to root out inefficiencies, wastage and rework.
Input Protocols
are integral but generally out of the direct control of
the company. Only if the suppliers are pulled close to
the company and become part of the infrastructure, then
the company can ensure the level of control to sustain
and maintain a production process producing quality products.
When analyzing
input protocols one must not under-estimate the effect
that suppliers can have on the performance of any production
process from a cost, delivery, performance and quality
standpoint.
