Within Change Part Protocols are those activities that concentrate on the machine tooling (change parts or machine setup) or ability to changeover a given packaging machine or system to adapt to the next required product scheduled. The main issues relate to clean up, decontamination, ergonomics, identification and documentation, design and specification of parts, wear and maintenance, transfers and storage, vendor support and continuous improvement.

Historically, most production lines have not been conceived, specified and designed for short runs and quick change and as a consequence change part or tooling designs reflect this thinking and make changing over awkward and time consuming.
